Before
Once we decided to take our house off the market last November, (we had it up for 6 months with one offer that was really low...bad market= bad time to sell!) and since we had no reason to move other than wanting to we decided to stay for another year or so.
Since we were staying, we decided to do some upgrading.
November we started with tile. Brandon tiled the laundry room and the two bathrooms upstairs! One big thing we learned from this experience is that we are not do it yourselfers!
We did multiple things wrong and it took way longer than we first thought! From here on out we are hiring people to do home improvements for us!
All in all I think it turned out pretty good! Better than the linoleum that was peeling up before!
This was one of the biggest headaches! The baseboards. We didn't take them off in the laundry room or the kids bathroom and ended up putting a new quarter round up against them and it turned out great, but in the master bath we decided to take them off (since it really was the right way to do it!) We have been told that they just pop off and then you just pop them back on when you are done! WRONG! Not in our house. These babies weren't put on with finishing nails, they were put on with 2-3inch staples! Once we started taking them off there was no going back! They were splitting and came off in pieces. We even dented the walls trying to pry them off! Needless to say we had to buy new baseboards for our bathroom!
After! The project is not officially done (still need to paint the quarter rounds in the kids bathroom!) But all bathrooms were usable in March!
(November to March...we thought it would take us 3 or 4 weekends max!)
Along with tile we decided to re-carpet the whole house! This was easier! In February, We (with the help of family and friends) moved all the furniture into the garage and non-carpeted rooms and ripped out the old carpet.
For 3 days the kids and I did everything we could think of to be out of the house. (nail strips and two small kids, not a good combo!)
The kids thought it was great! The night before the carpet came, we put our mattresses in the living room and had a "sleep over" on the floor, then pushed to mattresses into the kitchen when the installers came!
The new carpet is awesome! No spots...no wear pattern...no nothing!
AHHH it makes our house feel great!
The kids thought it was awesome!
Tyson does occasionally ask us if we can get the old carpet back!
Dancing on the new carpet! Silly kids!
